All Saints Church, Marsham - Outside

This fascinating church lies on the southern outskirts of the village of Marsham, Norfolk. Although just a stone's throw from the busy A140, I was surprised by the tranquility of the setting...
A lovely perimeter brick wall; fields beyond - a single ink-blot tree punctuating the horizon. I regretted not having my sketch book to hand. If I had, this is how I pictured it, as I imagined how the scene might look after nightfall...
A slow stroll took me to the trunk of a huge tree, wrapped in tendrils of ivy. At its foot, there stood a single gravestone, partly sunk into the earth. Somebody's son or daughter lies here...
A lovely church, in a lovely setting - and still so much more to discover inside...

  1. I like the idea that the lone tree is somehow keeping watch over all those who lie beneath.

  2. What a lovely thought Many Coats. You should consider becoming a storyteller, with such a poetic turn of mind...
