The Gunton Dandy

A visit to the elegant and restrained Robert Adam designed church at Gunton is always rewarding. Built in the 1760s this is English Palladian inspired architecture at its best: elegant, restrained and, in the depths of Norfolk, somehow other-worldly. I was delighted to happen upon the Gunton Dandy posing in one of the external niches. I am rather inclined to believe that you might appreciate an opportunity to see this strutting creature for yourself.

  3. A curiosity indeed in a county dominated by rustic flint churches.

  4. This Palladian style is the Devils doings. It harks back to a time of loose pagan morals and bestial behaviour. Of old men and beardless boys. It smacks of the folly of men who seek perfection on earth when they should be thinking about the perfection that is Heaven.

  5. Do those arms belong to the Dandy, or has he purloined them from another poor unfortunate creature?
