Eye Spy With My Tweedy I...

  1. As the poet William Henry Davies once wrote:
"We have no time to stand and stare", but as these photos show, we clearly should. The Devil is in the detail is he not? Clearly he is as can be seen from the look of woe upon that carved figures face as he sits miserably in the stocks. Interestingly enough only the second such carving I have ever seen on a church bench end. The other 'man in stocks' I found in Suffolk. I had thought him to be unique. Yet another good reason to stand and stare!

    1. My dear Mr. Many Coats,

This sullen little fellow can be found, forever constrained, within the church at Grimston, North-West Norfolk.

      Huzzah!

  2. Sir, your photographic skills are clearly on display here. You have control over your depth of field, your bokeh is truly magical and your creative eye is certainly on form in this lovely collection. I wholeheartedly agree with Mr Many Coats that stopping to take notice of your surroundings yield surprises and wonder. Huzzah Sir well done!

    1. My dear Thadeus,

I really do appreciate your kind and generous comments. It is very easy to slip into cliches when photographing churches, and I have been trying to challenge this of late. A very stimulating exercise!

      Huzzah!

    2. I have never slipped into a cliche, but I was there when a certain Ragged Rambler named Gnarus slipped into the remains of a manor house moat. How we laughed!

    3. But inwardly lest we upset the old fella!

  3. My dear Mr Many Coats,
Thank you I am now upright and getting back into the swing of things. A most unsettling bout perhaps due to eating too much treacle tart, although still to my mind, one can never eat too much treacle tart.
I trust you are well too?
