I am beginning to think that you Ragged Rambler boys and girls should have a private blog. That way you could keep people like me out without having to resort to FaceBook, or whatever.

That would be a shame Tom. Actually, your "guess" couldn't be more wrong though. Our motivation for activating word verification was purely because of the recent attack of Spam comments that have been polluting our quirky space. This is an affront to us and we are resolved to keep these unwanted intruders out. However, if you know of a way we can deactivate the verdication AND keep the Spamers out, then we would be absolutely delighted and very grateful.
Oh, sorry, Anonymous. I got rid of all my spam attacks by not allowing any anonymous comments. Try it - it worked for me! (Right, now I am off to try and post this comment without having to read out house numbers and wonky, meaningless words)
That comment wasn't 'anonymous' - it was signed off by 'The Ragged Society of Antiquarian Ramblers'. I was posting on my so called 'smart phone' in response to your previous comment, and it wouldn't let me sign in with a URL and name - hence me signing in as 'anon'.
I'm tired of the 'testy' nonsense, and this is the last time I'm gonna bloody well justify myself here. I wish your attitude was more constructive and courteous like that of Judith and Joanne (who made a suggestion, which we, in turn, have acted upon). If you want to 'read' bad intentions where there are none, then that says more about your state of mind than mine.

You will, I expect, have noticed that Joanne has made exactly the same sort of constructive comment about disabling anonymous comments as a very real solution to stopping any unwanted spam attacks? Oh yes, I see you have. Judith's suggestion about enabling comment moderation just does not work, unfortunately, though it was a good try.
Your reaction to what I thought was a rather helpful suggestion seems to indicate a degree of testiness on your part tonight. I would have thought you needed as many friends as you could hang on to, but never mind. I'll still read your mad blog, if that's alright with you? I like it.
With well over three and a half thousand visitors a month on average, I don't think we need be that desperate thanks. I think we'll survive, even though we've now activated comment moderation.
No, we hadn't tried that, but have just adjusted settings. Hopefully, that will keep the Spammers out, and allow easy access - which is important to us as well. Thank you for the suggestion.
We tried this, but immediately had complaints from some of our deceased members who declared - with considerable venom! - that they were unable to leave comments as a result. Therefore, we've decided to activate comment moderation instead. I think that's probably the best solution until Blogger create a system that is resistant to spammers and trolls.
When my blog suffered a spam attack recently I turned on comment moderation. It means you have to check frequently to delete the spam and publish the real comments but it is easier on the commenter. Work for me, but mine is a very modest effort and doesn't get much traffic. Cheers!
